CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby on Tuesday claimed that the Narendra Modi-led BJP government was approaching its “last days”, pointing to recent developments in the education sector and the party’s defeat in the Bangipur by-election in Bihar.

Baby made the remarks while speaking to reporters after arriving in Agartala to attend the CPI(M) state committee meeting.

Commenting on the country’s political situation, Baby alleged that examinations, including NEET, had been marred by irregularities, confusion and corruption. He said growing student protests had put pressure on the government and credited organisations such as SFI, ISF and ISA with playing a significant role in the movement.

He said the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alone would not resolve the issue, arguing that the government’s education policy, including the National Education Policy, required a fundamental review.

Baby also cited the Bangipur by-election in Bihar as another indication of changing political sentiments. He said the BJP’s defeat in what he described as a long-standing party stronghold reflected growing dissatisfaction among voters.

The CPI(M) leader claimed that the Left would strengthen its position in the coming days through movements involving workers, farmers, students, youth and women. He referred to recent workers’ protests in Agartala as an example of growing collective resistance to government policies.

Baby further alleged that several agreements had not been implemented and that differences were widening within both the BJP and Tipra Motha. Referring to the Tribal Autonomous District Council elections, he claimed that tensions between the two parties had surfaced during the campaign, including incidents of physical confrontation.

According to Baby, these differences are likely to deepen in the coming days and could influence the political equations in Tripura.
