In a major boost to rural veterinary care and livestock-based livelihoods, Tripura's Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhangshu Das today inaugurated the newly constructed Khowai District Animal Hospital, built at a cost of Rs 1.18 crore under the Animal Resource Development Department.
Strategically located near West Singichara along National Highway 08, the state-of-the-art facility is poised to transform veterinary services in the region.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasized the hospital’s role in providing accessible, efficient, and modern veterinary healthcare.
“From tomorrow, this hospital will be operational and will strengthen veterinary services across Khowai. Like human health systems, we’re developing a structured hierarchy—from sub-centers to referral hospitals—for animal healthcare,” Das said.
The facility will offer both emergency and routine treatment for livestock and will soon be equipped with advanced diagnostics, including X-ray, ultrasound, and C-section capabilities for large animals.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to rural empowerment, Das spotlighted the economic potential of livestock-based enterprises. “Our aim is to empower rural youth. Through ventures in dairy, poultry, piggery, and fisheries, one can earn lakhs annually,” he said. In a landmark announcement, he added, “Unemployed youth taking loans for livestock ventures can now avail subsidies up to 50%, meaning a loan of ₹1 crore can get a subsidy of up to ₹50 lakh.”
He further highlighted initiatives such as artificial insemination for just ₹25 per straw and annual financial support of ₹4,500 for rearing calves.
“Tripura still lags in fish and milk production, but with persistent efforts, we aim to become self-reliant,” he said, urging educated rural youth to seize these emerging opportunities.
Following the inauguration, the minister toured the hospital, interacted with veterinary staff, and witnessed a live cattle tagging demonstration.
