Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today instructed officials to complete the restoration work of Prabhubari Pond immediately and said that the pond is also important in terms of environmental protection of the area.

Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha said this after inspecting the Prabhubari Pond area in Agartala today along with Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar.

After inspecting the area, Dr. Saha said that special importance has been given to the maintenance of Prabhubari Pond.

“I have told the Municipal Corporation Mayor to ensure that it is properly taken care of. It is necessary to do this in the same way as we have restored other ponds or water bodies in the city area. This area falls under my Assembly constituency. If this pond is restored, it will be beneficial for the environmental protection of the residents here. Besides, if the pond is there for any reason, it will be useful. Along with this, there is a walking arrangement around the pond. Many people take morning walks and evening walks,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that earlier the government had restored ponds in around 30-35 places in the city.

“Today I came here to check the progress of the work. I have instructed the officials to complete the work as soon as possible. That is why the Mayor and Corporator are with me today,” he said.

Dr. Saha said that he has information that drug business is also being carried out in this area.

“So I have told the SDPO that from today onwards, no kind of drug business should be allowed here. No one will be spared. Under no circumstances can this be permitted. The SDPO has assured me that such immoral activities will not be allowed to continue,” he added.
