Amid the ongoing election process for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma has called on people to maintain peace and avoid any form of violence. He also encouraged citizens to report and expose anyone attempting to influence voters through money or intimidation.
Polling for the 28 TTAADC seats is scheduled for April 12.
In a video message released today, Pradyot mentioned that he has received reports of violent incidents occurring in certain areas. He appealed to the Tiprasa community to remain calm and responsible during this period.
He stated that engaging in fights, using abusive language, or resorting to violence during elections would only harm the reputation of the entire community. According to him, although there are around 4,000 political workers in the state, the Tiprasa population is approximately 14 lakh.
He pointed out that only a small fraction—around 2%—may be involved in such disruptive activities, but their actions end up damaging the image of the entire community, both within Tripura and beyond.
Pradyot also highlighted that in many cases, both those involved in violence and those affected by it belong to the same community. As a result, the consequences are borne collectively, rather than by any single political party.
He urged people not to take matters into their own hands. Instead, if they witness any malpractice such as the distribution of money, they should record it on their mobile phones, share it responsibly, and report it to the authorities.
He concluded by reminding citizens that while elections occur every five years, the damage caused by violence can have long-lasting effects. Such actions can break relationships, divide society, and ultimately harm the Tiprasa community as a whole.
“This violence pains me and tarnishes the image of our state,” he said.
