The National Health Mission (NHM) has launched the state-wide Stop Diarrhea Campaign-2025 in Tripura with a goal to eliminate child mortality caused by diarrhea.

The campaign, which commenced today, will run until July 31 and cover all eight districts of the state.

A senior government official stated that a high-level management and coordination meeting was held at the state secretariat to strategize for the effective implementation of the campaign. The meeting was attended by top officials including Tapan Kumar Das, Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education; Tapan Majumdar, Director of the Department of Health and Family Welfare; as well as representatives from the Departments of Food, Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs, Panchayat, Information and Cultural Affairs, and School Education.

The theme for this year—“Diarrhea can be prevented: Cleanliness and ORS are your focus”—emphasizes hygiene and timely medical intervention as key preventive measures.

Under the initiative, Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) and zinc tablets will be distributed to children under the age of five. A total of 3,04,062 children have been identified as beneficiaries across the state.

Special attention will be given to aspirational districts, remote areas, slum clusters, flood-prone zones, and regions with a history of diarrhea outbreaks.

Last year, 12,075 children in Tripura were affected by diarrhea; all recovered due to timely treatment and awareness initiatives.

The state government has called for coordinated action from all departments and stakeholders to ensure the success of the campaign and protect the health of Tripura’s young population.
