In a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, the Tripura Police under Longtharai Valley subdivision of Dhalai District recovered approximately 135 kg of ganja hidden inside the oil tank of a vehicle worth Rs 5 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted a truck bearing registration number NL01 G9014 at Manu Naka point around 4 PM on Thursday.

The seized truck, reportedly en route to Bihar, was thoroughly searched, leading to the recovery of the contraband. The estimated market value of the seized ganja is over Rs 5 lakh.

Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, identified as Nandan Chakraborty (47), a resident of Tepania in Udaipur. He is the father of the late Ranjit Chakraborty. During preliminary questioning, Nandan confessed that he was transporting the ganja to Bihar.

The consignment was ingeniously concealed in the oil tank of the vehicle, a method increasingly being used by drug traffickers to evade detection.

Police officials confirmed that further interrogation is underway to trace the mastermind and network behind the smuggling operation.

Manu Police have registered a case and intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.
