Tripura’s newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag, on Sunday reaffirmed that maintaining law and order in close coordination with the public remains the top priority for the state police. He also highlighted the department’s steady progress in its mission to make Tripura a drug-free state.

DGP Anurag made the remarks during his maiden visit to Unakoti district after assuming charge.

He chaired a high-level review meeting with district police officials to assess ongoing operations and future strategies.

The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), Officers-in-Charge (OCs) of various police stations, and senior officers from other security agencies. Deputy Inspector General (Northern Range) Rati Ranjan Debnath and Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai—responsible for both North Tripura and Unakoti districts—were also present.

“This is my first visit to Unakoti as DGP. Previously, I visited the district as ADG (Law and Order) and DG (Intelligence). The police here are doing a commendable job. Overall, the crime rate has gone down by 24% this year,” Anurag said.

He further noted, “We held a detailed discussion with SDPOs, SP, OCs, and other officials regarding our future action plan. Our primary focus is public cooperation in tackling crime and enhancing law and order. We aim to concentrate on areas that require further attention.”

Stressing the importance of community engagement, the DGP added, “Public coordination is crucial. We are working in close collaboration with citizens to ensure a peaceful environment. We are also fully committed to realizing the vision of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha for a drug-free Tripura. We are already seeing positive outcomes in this regard, and our efforts will continue to strengthen and expand our services to the public.”
