Tripura Minister reviews measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of essentials in monsoon

As the monsoon approaches, the Government of Tripura has initiated proactive measures to ensure the uninterrupted supply and price stability of essential commodities across the state.

Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chaired a high-level review meeting on Thursday to assess preparedness and coordinate strategies to tackle potential disruptions.

Acknowledging the state’s vulnerability to road blockages and logistical hurdles during the rainy season, the minister stressed the importance of early action to prevent supply chain disruptions and market irregularities.

"Tripura’s geography makes transportation especially challenging during the monsoon, but we have taken comprehensive steps to ensure that essential commodities—including petroleum products and LPG—remain available at stable prices," Chowdhury said.

The meeting focused on ensuring adequate stockpiling, uninterrupted distribution, and market regulation to avoid artificial scarcity and prevent black marketing.

Officials also reviewed coordination mechanisms between government departments, oil companies, the Food Corporation of India (FCI), and local market committees.

"The Food Department has been directed to maintain strict vigilance to curb price inflation during any temporary road blockages caused by natural calamities," the minister added.

Key attendees included Special Secretary Debapriya Bardhan, Director Sumit Lodh, Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Sadar, Jirania, and Mohanpur, along with senior representatives from IOCL, FCI, and various local market committees.

Minister Chowdhury concluded the meeting with a call for joint vigilance and active cooperation from both public and private stakeholders, assuring the people of Tripura that the government is fully prepared to safeguard consumer interests during the monsoon season.
