Tripura’s Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister, Sushanta Chowdhury, has assured residents that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG in the state, emphasizing that supplies remain stable and reliable.
The announcement came during a state-level review meeting and consumer awareness program held in Agartala, which brought together petroleum dealers and LPG agency representatives to discuss the smooth distribution of petroleum products and consumer protection measures.
Minister Chowdhury stated that all petroleum products are being supplied in line with demand and at fair prices. “There is no shortage anywhere in the state,” he affirmed. To prevent future disruptions, the government has standardized LPG procurement timelines to 25 days for urban areas and 45 days for rural areas, in accordance with central government guidelines.
The minister highlighted the importance of public awareness in maintaining stability. He urged the department, dealers, and agencies to run campaigns to keep citizens informed and to counter any misinformation. Authorities were also instructed to monitor the market closely and take strict action against black marketing of petroleum products.
On consumer awareness, Chowdhury emphasized cooperation between buyers and sellers to ensure that products are available at the correct prices. “Our goal is safe products and confident consumers. This year, the focus is on making consumers confident, which requires collaboration among the food department, dealers, and the public,” he said.
The meeting saw participation from senior officials including Debapriya Bardhan, Special Secretary of the Food Department, Sumit Lodh, Additional Secretary and Director, and Abhijit Biswas, Joint Director of the Food Department, alongside representatives of fair price shops and petroleum dealers, to discuss supply management and consumer protection measures in detail.
