Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, has raised serious allegations against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in the Northeast, accusing them of large-scale corruption and misuse of power.
Chaudhury claimed that in recent days, major corruption scandals have surfaced involving two Chief Ministers, including Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh.
He alleged that Khandu, along with members of his family, misused his official position to amass wealth worth crores of rupees. According to Chaudhury, two NGOs have already filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court regarding the matter, and the apex court has reportedly directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a probe.
The Opposition leader also targeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, alleging his involvement in multiple illegal activities over the past decade across the Northeast, including Tripura. Chaudhury claimed that Sarma played a significant political role in the 2018 regime change in Tripura and has continued to exert influence in regional politics. He further alleged that complaints have also been raised against Sarma and his family members by Congress leaders, though the Chief Minister has denied all accusations, calling them false and indicating that legal action would be taken.
Chaudhury went on to allege that in Tripura, the financial status and property holdings of BJP MLAs and ministers have seen a steep rise over the past eight years. He questioned why central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), CBI, and Income Tax Department have not initiated investigations in these cases.
“Why do central agencies act swiftly against opposition leaders, including sitting Chief Ministers, while remaining silent on these serious allegations?” Chaudhury asked. He further questioned why intervention by the Supreme Court becomes necessary in such cases.
Calling the situation a matter of public concern, Chaudhury urged citizens to raise their voices. He alleged that the BJP is “looting the economy and accumulating property using political power” and stressed that such practices must be stopped.
