Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy announced that the state government would introduce new schemes and increase budgetary allocations for the 2025-26 financial year, set to commence on March 21.

The Tripura government had presented a tax-free budget of Rs. 27,804.67 crore for the 2024-25 fiscal year, with a deficit of Rs. 410.69 crore.

The upcoming budget is expected to see further growth, as the government prioritizes welfare measures and infrastructural development.

Following a series of pre-budget discussions with cabinet ministers, secretaries, and department heads, the Finance Minister emphasized the need for expanding financial provisions.

"This will be our third budget. Since forming the government in 2018, we have ensured a consistent increase in the budget every year. This year will be no different. Special allocations will be made for lower-income groups, farmers, SC/ST communities, and students. We will continue our initiative of distributing mobile phones to students and further expand the scooty scheme for girl students," said Singha Roy.

He further stated that the government would enhance capital expenditure to boost infrastructure development, which will be instrumental in the state’s overall progress.

"We have already surpassed Rs. 6,000 crore in capital expenditure, and we anticipate further growth. Major investments will be made in health, road connectivity, tourism, education, and the IT sector. This budget will be focused on benefiting the people of Tripura," he added.

The budget session is scheduled to begin on March 21, aligning with the central government’s budget announcement to incorporate new schemes accordingly.
