The Tripura government is considering the deployment of an advanced vehicle-scanning system at the Churaibari check post on the Assam-Tripura border to digitally track vehicles and goods entering the state, Finance and Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said on Tuesday.

The proposed technology is intended to facilitate smoother movement of vehicles while enabling authorities to collect and monitor vital information without subjecting drivers to prolonged checks.

According to the minister, scanner-based technology could automatically capture details of vehicles, their cargo and drivers and transmit the information in real time to the government headquarters in Agartala.

Singha Roy spoke about the proposal while addressing the State-Level Launching Programme of four new modules under NextGen HRMS at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala.

He said the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) had significantly altered the functioning of traditional check posts, creating a need for more modern and technology-driven systems to monitor the movement of goods between states.

“We are exploring a system where vehicles can be scanned without disturbing or unnecessarily stopping them. The scanner would record details of the vehicle, the materials being carried and the driver, including the driver's name and address. The information would be received directly at the headquarters in Agartala,” he said.

The minister said such a system could provide the government with a more comprehensive database of vehicles entering Tripura and help authorities strengthen surveillance against the movement of illegal substances.

NextGen HRMS Expands Digital Governance

During his address, Singha Roy also highlighted the government's efforts to modernise administrative services through digital technology.

He said NextGen HRMS, an integrated platform of the Finance Department, has been developed to bring the entire service lifecycle of government employees under a single digital framework. The platform includes employee onboarding, service records, leave management, payroll, pension and treasury-linked payments.

The minister said Tripura was steadily progressing towards becoming a digitally enabled state, with the government expanding the use of technology across different levels of administration.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the e-Office system has been implemented from the Tripura Legislative Assembly to the Panchayat level, he said, adding that the initiative has helped make administrative processes faster and more efficient.

He further said digital delivery mechanisms had enabled beneficiaries to access various government schemes more quickly and transparently.

The government, he added, would continue to expand the use of digital technology to improve governance, enhance transparency and make public services more efficient and accessible.
