Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma has announced his decision to surrender his security cover, alleging repeated changes in his Personal Security Officers (PSOs) without proper explanation. He has sought Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha’s intervention, demanding a review of security arrangements for Tipra Motha legislators and Members of the District Council (MDCs).
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Debbarma said one of his PSOs was withdrawn on October 10, ahead of Durga Puja, without prior notice or official communication. He expressed concern over the decision, particularly given the importance of security during the festive period.
The MLA said he had written to the concerned police security wing on October 13, forwarding copies to the Chief Minister and the Director General of Police. However, he alleged that despite repeated communications, the authorities had failed to respond to his concerns.
Debbarma stated that since becoming an MLA around four-and-a-half years ago, his security personnel had been changed several times. He questioned the rationale behind the repeated reshuffles, saying no satisfactory explanation had been provided.
He further alleged that similar changes had affected other Tipra Motha MLAs and MDCs, raising concerns over the management of their security arrangements. He urged the Chief Minister to investigate the matter and identify any officials responsible for possible irregularities.
Announcing his decision to give up security cover, Debbarma said he would return to his village and continue his organisational activities and attend programmes across the district.
He appealed to the public to stand by him and urged the Chief Minister to personally examine the security arrangements of Tipra Motha representatives.
