Elaborate security arrangements in place for ‘Mayer Gomon’ today: IGP

Tripura Police have made elaborate security and traffic management arrangements for the ‘Mayer Gomon’ procession, the grand finale of Durga Puja celebrations, scheduled to take place in Agartala on Friday. A comprehensive security plan has been drawn up, with senior police officers and adequate personnel deployed to ensure the event is conducted peacefully and smoothly, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Menchak Ipper said.

Ahead of the grand procession, Ipper chaired a coordination meeting with police personnel, including traffic officials, in the presence of West District Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, Traffic Superintendent of Police Kanta Jangir and other senior officers. The meeting focused on security preparedness, traffic regulation and effective crowd management during the event.

Addressing the gathering, the IGP extended his greetings on the occasion of ‘Mayer Gomon’ and congratulated the people of Tripura for celebrating Durga Puja successfully. He described the procession as a significant event for the state, reflecting its rich cultural heritage and traditions while attracting visitors and guests from different places.

Ipper said the occasion offered an important opportunity to showcase Tripura’s cultural identity and hospitality. He urged all participants to maintain discipline, cooperate with the authorities and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the police to ensure the smooth conduct of the procession.

He said the police and traffic departments had jointly put in place comprehensive arrangements to manage the expected gathering. Personnel from the state police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), along with a large number of officers, have been deployed at strategic locations to maintain security, regulate traffic and manage crowds effectively.

Emphasising the importance of public cooperation, the IGP appealed to participants to immediately approach police personnel in case of any difficulty during the procession. He stressed that adherence to police instructions was essential to prevent confusion, maintain order and ensure the safety of visitors and participants alike.

“Discipline is the most important factor in managing such a large crowd and ensuring the successful conduct of the procession,” Ipper said, adding that some restrictions or instructions might appear inconvenient at times but were necessary for the safety and comfort of everyone.

He further said that a detailed security blueprint had been prepared, with deployment planned on a sector-wise and point-wise basis to strengthen surveillance, ensure effective crowd control and facilitate a swift response to any emergency.

Referring to the successful management of Durga Puja across the state, the IGP said police personnel had worked round the clock to maintain law and order throughout the festive period. He expressed confidence that the ‘Mayer Gomon’ procession would also pass off peacefully, provided participants maintained discipline and extended their full cooperation to the police.

Ipper appealed to the public, procession organisers and participants to follow the prescribed guidelines and cooperate with the security personnel, ensuring that the grand celebration concludes in a safe, peaceful and orderly manner.
