Social media content creator Amir Shokeen has been arrested in Delhi following intervention by Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, who confirmed on Friday that efforts were underway to bring him back to the state for further legal proceedings.
Recounting the sequence of events, Saha said he acted promptly after receiving information about the controversy. He immediately contacted Tripura DGP-in-charge GS Rao and instructed him to coordinate with Delhi Police to trace Shokeen and ensure appropriate action.
The Chief Minister said that Tripura Police subsequently established communication with the Delhi Police Commissioner and sought updates on the operation. Although Shokeen's whereabouts could not be ascertained initially, the police eventually tracked him down and arrested him in the national capital.
Saha further informed that a team of Tripura Police had already reached Delhi to take the case forward. The team is now expected to complete the necessary legal formalities before initiating the process of bringing the accused to Tripura.
“As far as I know, the process of bringing him here is underway,” the Chief Minister said, expressing confidence that the required procedures were being pursued.
The arrest is linked to a controversy over alleged derogatory remarks made by Shokeen against a youth from Tripura. The incident sparked widespread attention across the state, prompting the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the police administration and direct officials to coordinate with Delhi Police for appropriate legal action.
The development marks a significant step in the case, which has drawn considerable public interest in Tripura. With Shokeen now under arrest in Delhi, the next stage will involve completing the necessary legal procedures to facilitate his return to the state and enable further action in accordance with the law.
