A state-level seminar aimed at strengthening animal disease prevention, surveillance, and control through modern and innovative approaches was held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala on Tuesday.
The seminar, titled "Livestock Health Protection: Innovative Approaches to Disease Prevention, Surveillance and Control," was inaugurated by ARDD Secretary Deepa D. Nair. The event was attended by ARDD Director Dr. N. K. Chanchal, senior departmental officials, veterinary experts, and veterinarians from across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Deepa D. Nair said that livestock farming has witnessed significant growth in the state over the past five years. In view of this expansion, she stressed the need to equip veterinarians and departmental officials with updated knowledge and training on emerging animal diseases.
She also highlighted the government's focus on preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases—those that can spread from animals to humans—emphasizing the importance of strengthening preparedness and response mechanisms.
Nair informed that experts from Assam and other states are participating in the seminar to provide training and technical guidance to veterinarians and officials on disease prevention, surveillance, and modern veterinary healthcare practices.
The seminar brought together livestock experts, district-level officials, veterinarians, and representatives from related departments. Discussions focused on the use of modern technologies for disease prevention, establishing effective surveillance systems, and adopting coordinated strategies for disease control.
Participants also deliberated on improving livestock productivity through better animal health management while ensuring public health protection. According to the organisers, the day-long programme includes technical sessions, expert presentations, and interactive discussions aimed at further strengthening the state's livestock healthcare system.
