Acting on a tip-off, police from Kakraban Police Station conducted a raid in the Hadra-Samatala Para area on Friday night and detained three youths in connection with the alleged possession of heroin.

According to police, the operation was carried out at around 8 pm, during which a battery-operated auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle were also seized. Kakraban Police Station Officer-in-Charge Gopal Shukla Das said a total of 9.42 grams of heroin was recovered from the detained individuals.

The seized vehicles include a battery-operated auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR-03-D-3656 and a motorcycle bearing registration number TR-03-N-6986.

The detained youths were subsequently brought to Kakraban Police Station. Police identified two of them as Arjan Ali, a battery-operated auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Samatal Hadra, and Alamgir Hossain, a resident of East Palatana. The identity and role of the third youth are expected to become clearer as the investigation progresses.

SDPO Debanjali Roy also visited the spot and later the Kakraban Police Station after receiving information about the drug seizure. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

However, a counter-allegation has been raised by the wife of detained Arjan Ali. She claimed that her husband had been falsely implicated and alleged that no drugs were recovered from his possession.

The conflicting claims of the police and the family have added another dimension to the case, with the investigation expected to establish the facts.

Police sources said the detained youths are likely to be produced before a court on Saturday. The evidence and information presented by police before the court, along with the findings of the ongoing investigation, are expected to shed further light on the incident.
