Govt plans modernisation of civic bodies across Tripura: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said the state government is preparing a comprehensive master plan to modernise Nagar Panchayats and municipal areas across the state, on the lines of the ongoing Smart City initiatives in Agartala.

He said the government’s objective is to ensure that the benefits of development and civic services reach every section of society without political discrimination.

“The government is working above political considerations to implement development projects and extend various public services to people at their doorstep,” Saha said.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed two-storey ward office of Ward No. 43 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation at Pratapgarh. The office has been built at a cost of Rs 97.43 lakh.

Saha said the government is working in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ensuring that government schemes and services reach the last person in society. He said several initiatives have been undertaken in Agartala in recent years to improve urban infrastructure and the quality of civic amenities.

According to the Chief Minister, measures have been taken to improve drinking water supply, roads and drainage, besides providing housing, healthcare and opportunities for alternative livelihoods.

Under the AMRUT 2.0 programme, drinking water infrastructure has been developed at a cost of around Rs 112 crore, benefiting nearly 16,000 families in Agartala, he said. Forty-eight flats have also been constructed for economically weaker sections, while work on two additional housing units is underway.

Saha said further projects would be taken up under AMRUT 3.0. He added that 65 projects have already been completed in Agartala under the Smart City Mission at an expenditure of around Rs 581 crore.

The government is also focusing on infrastructure development and beautification across the Agartala Municipal Corporation area, he said.

AMC Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumder, Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, South Zone Chairman Abhijit Mallick and AMC Commissioner Saju Wahid were present at the programme.
