Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday expressed confidence that the NDA would register a decisive victory in the Village Committee elections, claiming that the alliance could win more than 90 per cent of the seats.
With counting set to begin on Monday, Saha said the polling process was largely peaceful across the state, although a few isolated incidents were reported. He said the authorities were looking into those cases and stressed that violence should have no place in the electoral process.
“The elections should remain peaceful. We have to put an end to the culture of post-poll violence that has persisted for years,” the Chief Minister said, expressing hope that the situation would remain calm after the results.
Saha attributed his confidence in the NDA's electoral prospects to the government's work at the grassroots level. He said development initiatives had reached rural and tribal areas, with greater emphasis on roads, drinking water, electricity and other essential services.
Rejecting criticism that adequate development had not taken place outside the major urban centres, Saha said the transformation was visible on the ground.
“People can see the changes themselves. Roads and lanes that were earlier in poor condition are now being upgraded with concrete construction,” he said.
The Chief Minister also pointed to the renovation of water bodies, beautification projects, bridge improvements and other infrastructure works undertaken by the government.
He said efforts had also been made to improve access to government services, enabling people to obtain important documents and certificates more conveniently. Various welfare schemes and financial assistance, he added, were also being delivered to eligible beneficiaries.
Saha maintained that improved infrastructure and welfare delivery had strengthened the government's connection with people in rural areas. He expressed confidence that this would be reflected in the Village Committee election results when counting begins on Monday.
