The Tripura Legislative Assembly will convene its three-day Monsoon Session from August 27, with sittings scheduled for August 27, 28 and 31. The schedule was finalised during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), chaired by Assembly Speaker Rampada Jamatia, on Friday.

The House will begin its proceedings at 11 am each day. Explaining the decision to commence the session on Thursday, Speaker Jamatia said the move was aimed at avoiding a weekend interruption, which often occurs when sessions begin on Fridays.

According to the Speaker, no major Bills are currently listed for consideration during the session. However, additional legislation may be introduced depending on the requirements of the government and the proceedings of the House.

Among the key issues likely to come up for discussion are smart meters and electricity bill-related concerns. A short-duration discussion notice submitted by Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on the matter has already been accepted. Further notices on other issues are also expected to be taken up during the session.

The BAC meeting discussed the proposed agenda, programme and various arrangements for the smooth and effective conduct of the Assembly proceedings. Members also reviewed the preparations required to ensure the session functions efficiently.

On the proposed transition to a paperless Assembly, Speaker Jamatia said the process is currently underway but will take some more time before being fully implemented. The initiative is aimed at modernising the functioning of the House and making legislative proceedings more efficient and technology-driven.
