A Tripura Police constable has been dismissed from service following a departmental inquiry into his alleged involvement in a bank fraud case involving forged customer signatures and the withdrawal of substantial amounts of money.

Constable Jayanta Saha, a resident of Udaipur, was removed from service with effect from August 18, 2026, by Gomati District Superintendent of Police Anirban Das after the charges against him were established during the departmental proceedings.

Saha had been accused in a 2025 HDFC Bank fraud case registered at R.K. Pur Police Station. Bank manager Abhijit Sarkar, Saha and his wife were arrested in connection with the case and reportedly spent around five months in judicial custody.

The allegations centred on the alleged forging of customers’ signatures to withdraw money from their accounts before the maturity of fixed deposits. Customers Niyati Sarkar and Lopamudra Homray had approached R.K. Pur Police Station with complaints regarding the alleged financial irregularities.

Following the criminal case, a separate departmental inquiry was conducted against Saha. The investigation found the allegations of misconduct and financial irregularities against the constable to be proved.

Based on the findings of the inquiry, the Gomati district police authorities took disciplinary action against Saha and ultimately terminated his service on August 18.

The dismissal comes amid continued scrutiny of the alleged bank fraud and the conduct of personnel accused in the case.
