The Tripura Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, has approved a major expansion of government manpower, clearing the creation of 305 new posts and the recruitment of 1,177 personnel across several departments.
Cabinet spokesperson and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the decisions at a press conference held at the Secretariat following the Cabinet meeting.
The biggest recruitment drive approved by the Cabinet is for the Tripura Police, with 916 constables, including male and female candidates, to be recruited under the Home Department. Selection will be conducted through the prescribed process, including physical fitness tests, written examinations and oral tests. The recruitment board will function under the leadership of the Director General of Police.
The Cabinet also sanctioned the recruitment of 219 Lower Division Clerks (LDCs) for the Health and Family Welfare Department through the Tripura Joint Recruitment Board.
Another 27 Group-C technical positions have been approved under the General Administration (Printing and Stationery) Department. These include posts such as Chargeman, Chargeman Retouching, Chargeman Offset Machine, Copy Holder, Kokborok Copy Holder, Machine Man and Binder.
To support the proposed establishment of four new Government Railway Police stations at Bishramganj, Udaipur, Belonia and Sabroom, the Cabinet approved the creation of 105 posts. The positions include Sub-Inspectors, Women Sub-Inspectors, Assistant Sub-Inspectors, Women Head Constables, Women Constables and Constable Drivers.
The Tribal Welfare Department will also recruit 15 fixed-pay employees through the GRBT for positions including LDC and Multi-Tasking Staff.
In a separate decision, the Cabinet approved the creation of 200 Assistant Professor posts for government general degree colleges under the Higher Education Department. Minister Chowdhury, however, clarified that creation of these posts does not imply that recruitment against all 200 positions will be undertaken immediately.
The Cabinet also gave its approval to the ‘Shri Shri University, Tripura Bill, 2026’, clearing the way for the proposed university to offer a wide range of academic programmes, from certificate and diploma courses to undergraduate, postgraduate, MPhil, PhD and post-doctoral programmes. The institution will also be empowered to confer honorary degrees such as D.Litt and D.Sc.
The proposed university is expected to cover diverse academic disciplines, including science, engineering and technology, architecture and planning, social sciences and humanities, commerce and management, AYUSH, yoga and naturopathy, and medical sciences.
According to Minister Chowdhury, the Cabinet’s decisions will help address manpower requirements across key departments. The recruitment of police personnel and creation of positions for the four new GRP stations, in particular, are expected to strengthen law enforcement, improve public safety and enhance the delivery of government services across the state.
