Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today stressed that strengthening all four pillars of democracy—Legislature, Executive, Judiciary and Media—is essential for ensuring the protection and advancement of human rights.

Speaking at the observance of International Human Rights Day organized by the Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) at Prajna Bhavan, Agartala, Dr. Saha said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has remained steadfast in his commitment to safeguarding the rights of every citizen.

“Our government is equally sensitive and dedicated to ensuring justice, dignity and equal opportunities for all,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of public awareness, Dr. Saha noted that both laws and human rights are rooted in common sense and moral responsibility. “If we violate the principles behind these laws, we violate human rights. Many people, whether facing family disputes or child-related concerns, approach various rights commissions for guidance. This itself shows how society learns to distinguish right from wrong,” he added.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency, he said, “Human rights are fundamental. Before taking any step, our government works carefully and tries to resolve issues promptly. A strong coordination and mutual trust between the government and THRC is extremely important. Whenever a journalist faces an attack, we take immediate action. This is a people-centric government.”

Dr. Saha further stated that the Northeast region, once neglected, has seen unprecedented development under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, particularly in areas such as communication and digital connectivity.

“If we wish to protect human rights, maintaining law and order is essential,” he emphasized.

THRC Chairperson Arindam Lodh, Tripura Commission for Women Chairperson Jharna Debbarma, DGP Anurag Dhankar, Law Secretary Sankari Das, senior officials including the DM and SP, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
