Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha today reiterated that the present government functions as a “people’s government,” emphasizing that all departments must remain alert, responsive, and proactive in addressing public grievances.

Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat on various public welfare initiatives and administrative activities, the Chief Minister stressed the need for efficient governance with a special focus on improving the state’s traffic system and maintaining law and order.

The meeting, held at Secretariat Conference Hall No. 2, was attended virtually by District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from all eight districts through the Task Monitoring System (TMS).

Focus on Traffic and Law & Order

Dr. Saha directed officials to take swift and effective measures to ease traffic congestion in district headquarters, including Agartala city. He also instructed that:

  • Overloading of heavy vehicles must be strictly regulated
  • Traffic signals should remain fully functional at all times
  • Construction of new motor stands be expedited

He further emphasized strengthening law enforcement to ensure a drug-free Tripura, instructing police and security agencies to remain vigilant, particularly to prevent drug trafficking through railway routes.

Accountability in Institutions

The Chief Minister called for strict monitoring of nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and sub-registry offices to ensure transparency, accountability, and corruption-free functioning.

Health and Education Priorities

Reviewing the situation in Dhalai district, Dr. Saha underscored the need to improve healthcare and education services. He instructed officials to take preventive steps against seasonal diseases such as diarrhea and dysentery, especially during the monsoon.

He also emphasized maintaining discipline in schools and ensuring proper quality and management of mid-day meal schemes.

Infrastructure and Services

On infrastructure development, the Chief Minister directed the speedy completion of road repair and renovation works while ensuring quality standards are maintained.

Regarding electricity services, officials informed that nearly 99% of infrastructure damaged in the recent Kalbaisakhi storm has been restored.

Welfare Schemes and Workers’ Payments

Dr. Saha also instructed concerned departments to ensure timely disbursement of MGNREGA funds and prompt payment of wages and allowances to daily wage workers without delay.
