The Tripura government has set an ambitious target of transforming 3.50 lakh rural women into Lakhpati Didis by FY 2028-29, with a renewed push to strengthen women-led livelihoods and enhance household incomes through coordinated government interventions.
The roadmap was discussed at the quarterly State Level Lakhpati Didi Steering Committee meeting held on Friday under the chairmanship of Rural Development Department Secretary Abhishek Singh.
The meeting was attended by Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma, senior TRLM officials and representatives from various line departments.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the progress of the Lakhpati Didi initiative and assessed the steps required to expand its coverage and improve implementation across the state. Particular emphasis was placed on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for women associated with rural self-help groups.
The Rural Development Department presented a detailed action plan extending up to FY 2028-29, stressing the need for stronger convergence among various government schemes and programmes. Officials noted that better coordination among departments would enable women to access livelihood support, financial assistance, skill development, market opportunities and other income-generating avenues more effectively.
The committee also discussed measures to further strengthen and scale up the initiative so that more rural women can build sustainable sources of income and achieve greater economic independence.
The Lakhpati Didi initiative aims to enable women from rural self-help groups to attain an annual household income of at least Rs 1 lakh through diversified livelihood activities and convergence of government support.
With the new roadmap, Tripura seeks to significantly expand the reach of the initiative and build a stronger base of financially empowered rural women by 2028-29, making women-led livelihoods a key driver of inclusive rural development.
