he Tripura unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday staged a protest rally and demonstration outside the office of the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Agartala, condemning the recent vandalism of the ancestral home of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore in Bangladesh.

The protest saw the participation of over 200 BJP leaders and workers, led by Tripura BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharya.

The rally commenced from the North Gate area of the city and proceeded to the Bangladesh mission, with protestors raising slogans and demanding action against those responsible for the attack.

Addressing the media, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharya termed the incident a "cruel act" and lashed out at the interim government in Bangladesh, led by Mohammad Yunus, for failing to protect minorities and heritage sites.

“Since the formation of the interim government in Bangladesh, there has been a sharp rise in attacks on minorities, especially the Hindu community. Temples have been desecrated, priests assaulted, and now the ancestral home of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore has been ransacked. This is not governance; it’s chaos,” Bhattacharya said.

He also criticized the silence of the Bangladeshi authorities, alleging that no arrests had been made and no statement had been issued in response to the incident.

“The inaction of the Yunus-led government is unacceptable. India cannot remain a mute spectator to such violence and disrespect toward one of its greatest cultural icons. Our protest today is a strong message — we will not tolerate this,” he added.

Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, making the state a critical stakeholder in cross-border relations and security concerns.
