Amid the ongoing elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) on Sunday, leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have raised serious allegations of voter intimidation, obstruction, and disruption at multiple polling stations across the state.

Polling for 28 seats began at 7:00 AM and witnessed a significant voter turnout throughout the day.

Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury alleged that BJP polling agents were forcibly removed from booths in Kuyai Chanbari under the Jirania constituency.

According to him, after receiving reports, he visited the area along with local party leaders and contacted administrative officials and tribal representatives. Following their intervention, the polling agents were reinstated. However, he claimed that disturbances continued, with outsiders reportedly gathering near polling stations and creating tension.

Chowdhury emphasized that while every voter has the democratic right to vote freely, polling agents must also be allowed to perform their duties without interference. He termed the incidents “unacceptable” and alleged that similar complaints were emerging from various parts of the state.

He further expressed confidence in his party’s prospects, stating that development-driven voting would favor the BJP and that tribal communities recognize progress under BJP governance.

Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath also reported irregularities, claiming that BJP polling agents were absent from at least five polling stations in the Simna-Tamakari constituency under West District.

He added that in the Bondhujungnagar-Wakinagar constituency, polling agents were missing from one booth. Nath also alleged that in certain areas, voters were initially prevented from casting their votes, though timely intervention by the administration ensured the continuation of polling.

Nath further highlighted incidents of intimidation and threats, along with an alleged attack on a vehicle belonging to a BJP candidate in the Mandwi constituency.

Despite these allegations, officials noted a high voter turnout, aided by favorable weather conditions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure smooth and fair conduct of the elections.
