Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday reiterated the government's commitment to transparent recruitment, announcing that 16,942 candidates have been appointed across various state government departments from the financial year 2018-19 till April 2025.

Speaking at the appointment letter distribution ceremony at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, Dr. Saha emphasized that providing employment based on merit and transparency has been a key priority of the administration. A total of 479 appointment letters were handed over during the event.

"Of the 479 posts offered today, 126 are in the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, 197 in the Public Works Department, and 156 in the State Cooperative Bank," Dr. Saha said. "The job recipients have secured these posts solely based on their qualifications. Earlier, people had to participate in rallies and still wait for years. Now, jobs are provided through a fair and transparent process."

Dr. Saha credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for emphasizing transparency in recruitment and said the state government is working in alignment with this vision.

Highlighting key milestones, the Chief Minister recalled the mass appointment event held on February 5 this year at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, where Home Minister Amit Shah virtually participated. During that event, 2,436 candidates were appointed to Multi-Tasking Staff (Group D) posts across 37 departments through the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT), along with 369 candidates for Pharmacist and Lab Technician posts in the Health Department—bringing the total appointments that day to 2,806, a record in the state's history.

Additionally, Dr. Saha informed that 11 candidates were appointed as Small Savings Inspectors through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) on April 19 this year. Altogether, 3,296 candidates have received appointment letters till April 2025.

He also mentioned that in December 2023, 1,980 candidates were appointed in 35 departments for posts like Lower Division Clerk and Agriculture Assistant through JRBT.

Citing data from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and the Periodic Labour Force Survey, Dr. Saha said that Tripura’s unemployment rate, once much higher than the national average, has seen a significant decline.
"In 2018-19, while the national unemployment rate stood at 5.8%, Tripura’s was 10%. However, in 2023-24, the state's unemployment rate dropped to 1.7%, compared to the national average of 3.2%," he said, criticizing opposition parties for allegedly misleading people with incorrect figures.
