Tensions have escalated across Tripura following the announcement of the April 17 TTAADC election results, with allegations emerging that BJP workers and supporters have been attacked by rival political groups.

Several party members reportedly went into hiding, fearing for their safety.

The situation intensified in the Matabari Assembly Constituency, where BJP MLA Abhishek Debroy allegedly came under attack on polling day.

According to party sources, four individuals associated with Tipra Motha were accused of carrying out the assault.

A case was filed at the Kakraban Police Station against the accused. Police detained three individuals—Nisadhan Jamatia, Vivekananda Debbarma, and Narayan Jamatia—who were later produced in court on April 20 and subsequently released on bail. Their release reportedly reignited fear among local residents and BJP supporters.

BJP workers have alleged that the police failed to apply stringent legal sections against the accused, allowing them to secure bail quickly. In protest, party supporters staged a demonstration at Kakraban Police Station on Tuesday afternoon.

During the protest, Officer-in-Charge Jayanta Malakar came out to address the crowd but was allegedly forced back inside the station and locked in by agitated BJP workers. Protesters raised slogans accusing the police of bias and claimed a loss of trust in law enforcement, alleging that officers were acting in favor of Tipra Motha.

As tensions escalated, senior police officials rushed to the scene. BJP workers confronted them over what they described as police inaction. The situation eventually came under control after assurances were given by the authorities.

The protesters have also demanded the immediate removal of OC Jayanta Malakar, intensifying the political strain in the region.
