Tension gripped East Phulbari village in North Tripura district after a youth from the Muslim community allegedly kept a sacred bull confined in his house for over a week, prompting public outrage and the subsequent vandalism of his property.
According to officials from Churaibari Police Station, the accused, identified as Moinul Hauq, had reportedly tied the bull inside his residence. Acting on a tip-off, a police team visited the location but found Hauq missing.
“By the time our team arrived, the accused had fled. We found the bull tied at his house and immediately rescued the animal. It has since been shifted to the police station,” a senior police officer said.
Soon after the police operation, villagers gathered at the site and vandalized Hauq’s house in protest, escalating tensions in the area.
“Police teams were deployed swiftly to contain the situation. We managed to restore order and prevent further unrest,” the officer added.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the bull might have been kept with the intent to sell it, although authorities are yet to confirm this. A case has been registered, and an investigation is currently underway.
