In a disturbing incident reflecting political intolerance, shops belonging to supporters of the opposition CPI(M) were vandalized near Charipara bus stand under located at the outskirt of Agartala city on Thursday night.
The attack occurred on Thursday night and has raised serious concerns over law and order in the state during the so-called era of good governance.
Swapna Banik, a resident of the area, runs a shop in front of her house which sustains her family.
She revealed that her shop has been repeatedly targeted since the BJP government came to power, due to her support for the opposition party.
Her two sons, Joy Banik and Bijay Banik, had stayed away from home for two years, fearing threats to their lives. They recently returned, only to face renewed violence.
According to Swapna, the recent vandalism was carried out by miscreants allegedly acting on orders from the local MLA.
Shockingly, the attack happened in front of four police personnel who were present at the scene but took no action to prevent the destruction. A police vehicle reportedly rushed to the site after the shop was damaged.
Speaking to the media today, Swapna Banik demanded immediate justice and intervention from the Chief Minister, calling for accountability and protection for opposition supporters in the state.
This incident has once again spotlighted the growing political violence and intimidation faced by opposition members in Tripura, raising serious questions about democratic freedoms and governance.
