A tense situation has developed in the Ranchi Tilla area under Jalai Gram Panchayat in Gournagar Block of Kailashahar after allegations emerged that beef was being sold locally under the guise of mutton, sparking strong reactions among residents.
According to local accounts, two young men from tea garden worker families, identified as Monsha Munda and Sujit Bhumiya, had reportedly been selling meat in the area for a long period while claiming it was goat meat. Recently, some residents began to doubt the quality of the meat being sold, leading to growing suspicion within the community.
The situation escalated on Tuesday afternoon when locals allegedly caught the two men at their residence while they were preparing meat. They were confronted by an agitated group, and a social worker, Apu Shil, also arrived at the scene and questioned them. During the interaction, locals claim the individuals admitted to selling beef.
Following this, the situation became more volatile, with reports that the accused were subjected to public humiliation by some villagers, including being made to squat while holding their ears and having their hair cut. A large crowd gathered, further intensifying tensions in the area.
Concerns have since been raised regarding law and order, and it remains unclear whether a formal complaint has been lodged with the police. Authorities are said to have taken note of the incident.
Questions are also being raised about possible involvement of others, the duration of the alleged activity, and the source of the meat being sold. The area continues to remain tense, with the administration reportedly keeping a close watch on developments in Gournagar Block.
