Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, announced today that under the current state government, tea workers in Tripura have been granted leased land for permanent residence.
Along with this, they are also receiving benefits such as cooking gas connections and free ration supplies.
“The government, through collaborative efforts between the central and state authorities, is implementing various projects aimed at uplifting the most marginalized sections of society,” the Minister stated.
These remarks were made during the inauguration of a new tea leaf sales center and the launch of new tea marketing packets at the Durgabari Tea Garden.
Minister Nath highlighted the significance of tea production as a longstanding industry in India, noting that the country is the world’s second-largest tea producer.
“Tripura is making steady progress in tea cultivation,” he added.
Currently, 10,438 tea workers employed across 52 tea gardens in the state are benefiting from different government welfare schemes. So far, 3,339 tea worker families have been provided with housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Cooperatives Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, speaking at the event, emphasized the vital role cooperatives play in India’s development. “Tea consumption has grown popular among tribal communities, and it is important to involve tribals more actively in the tea industry’s growth,” he said. Noatia also assured that the government is committed to implementing effective plans to address the needs of the people.
