Preparations for Tripura’s seven-day traditional Kharchi Puja and Festival, set to commence on July 22, are progressing rapidly. A review meeting was held today at the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office to assess the arrangements.

The meeting focused on the upcoming celebrations at the Chaturdasha Devata Temple complex in Khayerpur under Old Agartala block. It was chaired by MLA Ratan Chakraborty, who highlighted that Kharchi Puja is a festival that brings people of all communities together, cutting across religious and social boundaries. He noted that the event has grown into a matter of cultural pride for Tripura, attracting large numbers of devotees and tourists from across India and abroad.

Extensive discussions were held on the infrastructure and logistical preparations for the festival and fair. Authorities stressed the need to strengthen facilities around the temple and fairground, including proper street lighting, continuous power supply, availability of safe drinking water, and deployment of medical teams for public safety.

To ease traffic movement, designated parking zones will be arranged, along with a structured plan for stall distribution. As in previous years, various government departments will also set up exhibition stalls showcasing welfare schemes and highlighting the achievements of the Central Government during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years in office.

The Department of Information and Cultural Affairs will organize daily cultural performances at the Habeli and Krishnamala stages, featuring artists from different parts of the state. A dedicated food court is also planned to enhance the visitor experience.

The meeting was attended by senior officials and public representatives, including Bishwajit Shil, Acting Sabhadhipati of the West Tripura Zila Parishad, among others.
