The ruling Tripura unit of the BJP held an important core committee meeting in Agartala, focusing on preparations for the upcoming Village Committee elections and broader organisational strengthening efforts.

This was the first such meeting after the appointment of the new state BJP president, MLA Abhishek Debroy. The session saw participation from senior party leadership, including BJP Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, and General Secretary (Organisation) for Tripura Ravindra Raju.

Others present included Tripura BJP Prabhari Rajdeep Roy, state General Secretaries Amit Rakshit and Bipin Debbarma, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, MP and former state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharya, former MP Rebati Tripura, MLA Bhagaban Das, and former Minister of State Pratima Bhoumik.

Briefing the media after the meeting, the state BJP president said the party’s core committee is scheduled to meet regularly, though it had not been held for some time. He noted that the renewed meeting focused on reviewing organisational functioning and planning the strengthening of structures from the Mandal to district levels, along with resolving internal and local-level issues.

He added that coordination meetings at block and district levels, as well as pending state committee meetings, would be conducted soon to streamline organisational work. The leadership also reviewed ongoing preparations to strengthen the party at the grassroots.

The president further informed that directives from the party’s central leadership regarding programmes marking Balidan Diwas—from June 23 to July 6—would be implemented across the state.

According to party sources, the meeting was particularly significant as it marked the first core committee gathering under the new state leadership. Discussions reportedly lasted about an hour and covered organisational consolidation, upcoming Village Committee elections expected in September, and preliminary planning for municipal body elections.
