Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday launched a strong criticism of the Tipra Motha Party, alleging that the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has failed to fulfil the aspirations of the indigenous people despite receiving a decisive mandate from voters.

Addressing a public gathering, Sarkar questioned the functioning of the autonomous council, claiming that the TTAADC exists only on paper. He alleged that despite Tipra Motha winning 24 seats in the council elections and retaining power, the administration has failed to form an effective working structure or introduce significant development initiatives.

"The TTAADC exists only in name. There is no visible work, no employment opportunities and no relief for people in many tribal areas," Sarkar said, accusing the council leadership of neglecting key issues affecting indigenous communities.

The senior CPI(M) leader claimed that poverty and unemployment have pushed many families into extreme distress. He alleged that several youths are leaving the state in search of jobs, with some facing tragic consequences, while their families struggle to bring them back home.

Questioning the accountability of the council administration, Sarkar asked who would stand by the affected families and address their hardships. He accused Tipra Motha of failing to focus on unemployment, poverty and other major concerns of the indigenous population.

Sarkar also questioned the continued public support for Tipra Motha, saying voters who backed the party should reflect on whether their expectations had been fulfilled. He alleged that the party had "betrayed the trust" of indigenous people and was prioritising its own interests over public welfare.

The former Chief Minister further claimed that a section of indigenous youths had been influenced by misleading promises but said the situation was gradually changing. According to him, people have started questioning the performance of the TTAADC, indicating a shift in public opinion.

The Tipra Motha Party had not issued any response to Sarkar’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
