Efforts are underway to strengthen coordination between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partner Tipra Motha, with senior leaders from both parties reaching New Delhi for a crucial discussion on resolving internal differences ahead of the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections and the 2028 Tripura Assembly polls.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and BJP state president Abhishek Debroy have already arrived in the national capital, while a senior delegation of Tipra Motha, headed by party founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, is expected to join the meeting. Sources said the discussions are likely to focus on improving coordination between the two allies and addressing issues that emerged after the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Despite being partners in the state government, the BJP and Tipra Motha had contested the TTAADC elections separately, leading to a rise in political tensions between the two sides. During the campaign, leaders of both parties engaged in strong verbal attacks against each other, creating differences within the alliance.

However, with the Village Committee elections approaching and the next Assembly polls scheduled for 2028, both parties are reportedly keen to put aside disagreements and ensure better coordination at the organisational level. Sources indicated that the BJP’s central leadership is also interested in maintaining unity among alliance partners to ensure political stability in the state.

Tipra Motha became a part of the BJP-led government in Tripura in 2024 following an agreement with the Centre focused on the development and welfare of indigenous communities. Since then, the two parties have shared power in the state, though differences surfaced during the TTAADC polls.

The Delhi meeting is being viewed as an important step towards rebuilding trust between the coalition partners. The decisions taken during the discussions may have a significant impact on the future functioning of the alliance and their joint strategy for upcoming electoral challenges.
