The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress (TPYC) on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Director of Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, demanding the immediate suspension of a doctor posted at GB Pant Hospital over alleged misconduct with a patient.

In the memorandum signed by TPYC President Neel Kamal Saha, the youth wing alleged that the incident took place on August 4 when a patient visited GB Pant Hospital for dental treatment and was referred to a specialist doctor.

According to the memorandum, after waiting outside the doctor's chamber for a considerable period, the patient allegedly addressed the doctor as "Dada." The doctor reportedly objected and asked the patient to address him as "Baba." When the patient refused, the doctor allegedly declined to examine or treat him.

Calling the alleged behaviour "unacceptable" and "a shame to the state," the Youth Congress stated that no abusive or unparliamentary language had been used by the patient, and that a government doctor refusing treatment over such an issue was against professional ethics.

The memorandum further alleged that when police arrived to look into the matter, a police personnel advised the patient to touch the doctor's feet and seek forgiveness so that he could receive treatment. TPYC termed the alleged incident as "barbaric" and urged the authorities to take immediate action.

The Youth Congress demanded the immediate suspension of the concerned doctor and called upon the Health Department to issue strict instructions to all doctors to maintain professional conduct and treat patients with dignity and respect.

The Health and Family Welfare Department has not yet issued any official response to the allegations.
