Tipra Motha Party founder and royal scion of Tripura, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, on Friday urged the Government of India to adopt a consistent and equal approach while dealing with security threats posed by Pakistan and Bangladesh.

His remarks came in the wake of the recent terror attack targeting Hindu pilgrims in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Expressing solidarity with the Centre’s response to the Pahalgam incident, Pradyot said, “I fully support the Government of India's firm stance against Pakistan following the terror attack. However, I believe the same level of seriousness must be shown when similar incidents or threats emerge from our eastern borders. A life lost in East India is no less valuable than one lost in the North or West. We, too, are proud Indians.”

Warning of strategic threats from both borders, he said, “Pakistan and Bangladesh may attempt to surround India from the west and east. The Centre must be equally vigilant. Just because Delhi is geographically closer to Pakistan doesn’t mean the concerns of people in the East are any less significant.”

Referring to recent developments in Bangladesh, Pradyot cited alarming signals, including a reported visit by an ISI general and the construction of a Chinese air base in North Bengal.

“Statements made by Mohammad Yunus of Bangladesh’s interim government raise serious concerns. Tripura, given its location, is especially vulnerable. The areas of Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, and Chattogram—once part of Tripura—now see actions that threaten regional peace and our historical ties.”

He concluded with a strong call for unity and vigilance. “We must question why our people were displaced from their land, and who truly considers us a threat. The Government of India must treat Pakistan and Bangladesh on equal terms when it comes to matters of national security.”
