In a proactive move to reinforce disease surveillance and immunization coverage, the State Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Saju Wahid A, carried out a one-day inspection visit to Unakoti district on Sunday.
Travelling from Agartala, he reached Kailashahar in the morning and immediately engaged with district officials to evaluate preparedness against measles and rubella.
A comprehensive review meeting was held at the Circuit House, where senior administrative and health officials briefed him on recent case trends, response strategies, and vaccination outreach progress.
Among those present were District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar and key health functionaries, who highlighted ongoing efforts to track infections and ensure timely immunization. The discussion focused on identifying gaps in coverage and improving last-mile delivery of vaccines.
As part of his field assessment, the NHM Director visited a primary health centre in the Gournagar block, where he directly interacted with healthcare staff and reviewed on-ground implementation of immunization drives. He stressed the importance of community awareness and active participation to prevent outbreaks.
The inspection also included a visit to the district hospital in Kailashahar, where he evaluated treatment facilities, including isolation arrangements for suspected cases. He advised medical authorities to remain alert and strictly follow standard health protocols.
Speaking to reporters later, Saju Wahid A noted that the overall situation remains under control but called for continued vigilance, especially given the district’s international border proximity to Bangladesh.
He announced that a focused vaccination campaign would soon be launched to cover children who have not yet received the measles-rubella (MR) vaccine, particularly those in the 9–16 month age group.
Reassuring residents, he urged people to stay calm while remaining cautious. He also emphasized early reporting of symptoms such as fever and skin rashes to nearby health centres.
Authorities expressed confidence that the visit would boost coordination and accelerate efforts toward complete immunization and disease prevention in the district.
