The Meteorological Centre, Agartala, has issued an orange alert for North Tripura and Unakoti districts, and a yellow alert for the rest of the state, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 21 to May 25.
According to the Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall has already occurred in Unakoti and North districts.
“Moderate rainfall was recorded in most parts of Tripura, particularly in West Tripura, Sepahijala, Khowai, and Unakoti districts, while light rainfall occurred in the remaining districts during the last 24 hours. There has been no significant change in maximum and minimum temperatures, and both remained within normal ranges,” the statement said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) further stated that light to moderate rain accompanied by thundershowers is likely across the state. An orange alert remains in place for North Tripura and Unakoti, while a yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts during the forecast period.
The IMD attributed the weather activity to two systems an east-west trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan to north Bangladesh, passing through north Rajasthan, south Haryana, south Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, at about 1.5 km above mean sea level.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation over central Assam and north Bangladesh and the adjoining region, also at around 1.5 km above mean sea level.
“Due to these systems, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are very likely to occur at one or two places in various districts of Tripura,” the IMD added.
