The festive spirit of Sharadiya Durga Puja at the Brahmabari Shitalabari in Udaipur of Tripura's Gomati District was marred by an unfortunate incident on Sunday morning.
Devotees arriving at the puja mandap on Mahasashthi found that the idols of Goddess Durga, along with those of Lakshmi, Ganesh, and Kartik, had been vandalized, with their hands broken.
The preparations for the Durga Puja had been ongoing until late on Saturday night, and the incident has left the local community shocked and angered. Word of the vandalism quickly spread, drawing a large crowd of distressed locals to the mandap.
Police from Radhakishorpur police station promptly reached the site, followed by the Superintendent of Police of Gomti district and other senior officials. The police have already begun reviewing CCTV footage and preliminary investigations suggest that the miscreants carried out the act in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident has created tension in the area, especially at the onset of the festival, raising concerns among devotees and community members. Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for this act of desecration.
