In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP), in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), apprehended four individuals from Bihar in the early hours of Monday at Agartala railway station. A total of 37.615 kilograms of dry cannabis, packed in 35 packets and concealed in four bags, was recovered during the operation.
Speaking to the media, Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP, said the accused had planned to transport the contraband to Delhi by train.
“During preliminary interrogation, the accused admitted that they were attempting to smuggle the ganja to Delhi via railway,” Das stated.
The arrested persons have been identified as Bipin Kumar (23) and Gautam Kumar (15) from Katihar district, Manish Kumar Mandal (28) from Bhagalpur district, and Durga Devi (40) from Purnia district, all in Bihar.
A case has been registered against them under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP police station.
Officials said that investigations are ongoing, and more arrests could follow. The seized cannabis is estimated to be worth approximately ₹7.5 lakh in the Delhi market.
