Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday voiced strong concerns over the deteriorating condition of blood donation and healthcare services in Tripura, alleging a disconnect between government claims and ground realities.

Speaking at a voluntary blood donation camp organized by the Tripura Auto Rickshaw Workers Union at the CITU state office in Office Lane, Sarkar said the state’s healthcare system is under severe strain.

The camp was held to mark the foundation day of the union and saw the participation of several leaders, including Sarkar.

Addressing reporters at the event, the veteran CPI(M) leader criticized the government’s failure to ensure adequate blood donation, stating that without the active participation of state government employees in such drives, the crisis will persist.

He urged the government to take immediate and concrete steps to address the issue.

Sarkar also flagged serious concerns regarding hospital management in Tripura. Citing the example of GB Pant Hospital and IGM Hospital in Agartala, he alleged that junior doctors are overburdened, often working 13 to 14 hours a day under stressful conditions, while experienced doctors are unavailable during critical hours.

"This is hampering the quality of medical services," he said.

Highlighting the issue of unemployment among trained healthcare professionals, Sarkar said many qualified individuals remain jobless despite completing medical courses.

He called for an increase in the recruitment of health workers to bridge the existing gaps.

Turning his attention to the education sector, the former Chief Minister alleged that while students reach school on time, teachers frequently report late, and most schools face an acute shortage of teaching staff.

He accused the government of turning a blind eye to these pressing issues, warning that inaction could lead to long-term damage to the state's education system.

Sarkar concluded by urging the government to prioritize healthcare and education reforms to ensure quality services for the people of Tripura.
