The civil and police administration in Tripura’s North District has made extensive preparations, including a three-tier security system, to ensure smooth and peaceful counting of votes for the Dharmanagar by-election.
The by-election was conducted on April 9 and was held following the death of Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker and MLA Biswa Bandhu Sen. The constituency saw a strong voter turnout of 80.04%.
DIG Rati Ranjan Debnath, after inspecting the counting centre at PM Shri Dharmanagar Government Girls School along with North District SP Avinash Rai and SDPO Jayanta Karmakar, confirmed that all arrangements are in place.
He stated that counting will begin at 8 am tomorrow, with comprehensive security measures already implemented. “Two layers of barricading have been installed to regulate entry, and Section 163 BNSS has been enforced around the counting venue to prevent large gatherings. A three-tier security setup has been deployed to maintain law and order and manage crowd control. Fixed pickets and mobile patrol teams are also in position,” he said.
The DIG further added that personnel from Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and Tripura Police will be deployed as needed, with the possibility of additional forces kept in reserve. However, he expressed confidence that extra deployment would likely not be required, citing the successful and peaceful conduct of recent elections in the district.
He concluded that the administration has ensured all necessary arrangements for a safe and orderly counting process.
