Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday announced that the state government will soon recruit 916 constables and 218 Sub-Inspectors in the Tripura Police force, as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement and ensure public safety.

Dr. Saha made the announcement while attending an Offer of Appointment distribution programme for the newly appointed constables (men and women) at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. A total of 975 appointment letters—332 to women and 643 to men—were handed over during the event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister emphasized the transparency and merit-based approach of the current recruitment process.

“There were many doubts and speculations, but this government works on time and on merit. No one can claim to have secured a job here through influence. This is purely based on talent and hard work,” said Dr. Saha.

The Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that strengthening Tripura Police is a top priority. “Maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety are key areas for us. Soon, we will also declare the results for Special Executive recruitment. We have given the police a free hand to act decisively, much like Operation Sindoor, where our forces have effectively neutralized terrorist threats,” he said.

He further added that since February 12, 2025, development and infrastructure works worth ₹368.21 crore have been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid across multiple departments.

Highlighting the state’s employment initiatives, Dr. Saha said, “A total of 17,554 individuals have received jobs, including under the Die-in-Harness scheme. Employment generation has been a key focus, with over 2.1 lakh entrepreneurial opportunities created. In 2025 alone, 4,499 individuals have been offered government jobs so far. We’ve also ensured 33% reservation for women in recruitment.”

The Chief Minister presented key crime statistics, noting a significant drop in overall crime in the state. “In 2024, the crime rate decreased by 19.4% compared to 2023. In just the first four months of 2025, we’ve already seen a 10% decline. Road accidents have also dropped—by 13% in 2024 and by 40% so far in 2025. We’ve taken strong measures against drug abuse, leading to a 106% rise in narcotics seizures and a 132% increase in destruction of illegal substances,” he said.

Dr. Saha also underlined the state’s initiatives to support women, including the establishment of Women Help Desks at every police station.
