The 10th International Yoga Day will be celebrated with grandeur at the state level in Tripura on June 21, with the main event set to take place at the International Exhibition Hall in Hapania, Agartala.
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy announced this at a press conference held at the State Secretariat today.
Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha will inaugurate the event, which will be observed under the global theme—‘One World, One Health’.
Minister Roy said the celebration in Tripura will be aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, as Yoga Day is set to be observed simultaneously at over one lakh locations across the country.
In line with this initiative, the central government is also working toward establishing 1,000 dedicated yoga parks nationwide, he added.
The state-level program in Tripura will feature a grand yoga demonstration with active participation from Tripura Police, BSF, CRPF, TSR, NCC, NYKS, NSS, Scouts and Guides, school students, yoga practitioners, social organizations, and government employees. To mark the occasion, a mega blood donation camp will also be organized.
Apart from the main event in Agartala, International Yoga Day will be celebrated across all districts, subdivisions, and blocks, with iconic locations like Unakoti heritage site hosting special yoga sessions. Preceding the event, a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Yogasana competition will be held on June 20.
Highlighting other social initiatives, Minister Roy mentioned that over 60% of differently-abled individuals aged 10 years and above from families with an annual income of less than ₹1 lakh are now being included under the state’s social allowance scheme. While 2,537 beneficiaries were approved in December 2023, an additional 658 individuals have been cleared this month, with disbursement beginning from today.
He also shared that the help desk at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Hospital, launched on May 1, has already processed 118 applications for monthly social allowance for cancer patients—payments for which are now underway.
In a significant boost to women's welfare, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has approved two new One Stop Centres for women in distress—one each in Agartala and Kailashahar. With this, Tripura now has one functional One Stop Centre in every district, ensuring greater outreach and support for women across the state.
