The Sadar Sub-Divisional Committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Wednesday organized a protest rally and public meeting in Agartala, raising a series of demands concerning workers, farmers, and the general public.

During the rally, CITU leaders and activists called for the repeal of what they described as anti-worker labour codes, reduction in electricity tariffs, withdrawal of smart meters, and the continuation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme instead of the GRamG" project. They also demanded that the minimum daily wage for workers be fixed at Rs 700.

The protesters further urged the government to take immediate steps to control the rising prices of essential commodities and to repair dilapidated roads in different parts of Agartala that have remained in poor condition for a long time.

Addressing the gathering, CITU leaders alleged that soaring prices, increasing electricity bills, and a lack of employment opportunities have pushed workers and common people into severe hardship. They appealed to the government to take prompt measures in the public interest to address these issues.

The protest march passed through several major roads in Agartala before culminating in a brief public meeting. CITU leaders said they would continue their movement to safeguard the rights and interests of the working class. They also warned that if their demands remain unfulfilled, the organization would launch a larger mass movement in the coming days.
