Tripura University has appointed Prof. Ashes Gupta of the Department of English as the Director of its College Development Council (CDC), entrusting him with the additional responsibility for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

An official notification issued by the university on August 25 said Prof. Gupta would continue to discharge his regular duties in the Department of English while functioning as CDC Director.

The appointment was made with the approval of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das. The order, signed by Prof. Samir Kumar Sil, Registrar (in-charge), said the matter would subsequently be placed before the university’s Executive Council.

The CDC plays a key role in the academic and institutional development of colleges affiliated to the university. It also serves as an institutional link between the university administration and affiliated colleges on matters relating to academic planning, development and other higher education initiatives.

Prof. Gupta’s appointment comes at a time when affiliated colleges are dealing with several changes in academic programmes and the implementation of new higher education initiatives.

The notification makes clear that the CDC assignment is an additional charge and does not alter Prof. Gupta’s existing responsibilities in the English department.
