The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and the United Kisan Morcha jointly organized a protest march on Wednesday against the implementation of four labor codes, which they claim are against the interests of workers.
The march began from the West District office at Melarmath and passed through various streets of the city before culminating in a demonstration in front of the Labor Department.
A meeting was also held as part of the protest. Among those present were CITU President Manik Dey, State Secretary Shankar Prasad Dutta, and senior leaders of the Kisan Morcha, including Pabitra Kar.
Speaking at the event, Shankar Prasad Dutta stated that the central government has decided to implement the four labor codes starting April 1 this year. He strongly opposed the move, saying that these labor codes undermine the hard-won rights of workers. Dutta further added that since independence, India has never faced such adverse conditions for its workforce.
He criticized the Modi government, alleging that it has been making decisions favoring big industrialists like Adani and Ambani, leaving workers deprived of their rights and struggling with hardships.
